Love is Love!

With many cities throughout the world celebrating LGBTQ Pride this weekend and many more being blocked from doing so by their governments, this is an opportune time to mention sexuality in the context of relationship astrology.

One of the questions that we are often asked  as astrologers is whether the gender we are sexually and emotionally attracted to is visible in the natal chart. (By gender I mean the gender we each identify with – which is not necessarily the gender we are physiologically born with).

As astrologers the importance of this question has more to do with why this is asked, rather than trying to find an answer to something that is not visible in the natal chart.

In my experience there is often an element of fear, anxiety and distress at the core of this question, whether it's asked by someone who is questioning their own sexuality, or by a family member, spouse, parent, child, friend…As we all know, fear fueled by misinformation  is at the heart of all our prejudices, including homophobia. In many countries and within many religious belief systems these prejudices have become institutionalized over many centuries, with punitive measures in place to enforce them. Regardless of the reasons for the prejudice and fear, pain always comes with it and for those of us who work as relationship astrologers, we are in an ideal position to help the individual unpack their underlying anxieties, fears and concerns, with the help of their natal chart. We can also remind the individual of their inner resources, so that they can strengthen their self-value and self-love. Self-love and prejudice seldom go hand in hand, whether towards ourselves or towards others.

You may be wondering why our sexual/emotional preference is not visible in the natal chart!  My personal and professional view in a nutshell, is that it’s because as souls in human bodies, who we love is not important in the context of our evolutionary journey. (Except in so far as needing the strength and courage to deal with homophobic attitudes in the collective if our intimate other is the same gender). On the other hand, how we love who we love, is very important!

With the help of the transpersonal transits, eventually, the question of whether sexual/emotional preference is visible in the birth chart will no longer be asked, as it will no longer be deemed to matter! In time, labels will no longer exist, allowing us to simply love who we love when we love them, as we will finally recognize that Love is Love!  MG June 2017
