Glassblower: Mars in Virgo July 29 - September 14, 2021

July 28, 2021

No one can accuse Mars of being too happy in Virgo. The Cosmic Warrior prefers bold action to the fastidious perfectionism of Virgo. By nature Mars is a blacksmith, forging iron with his hammer striking the anvil. In Virgo, he’s a glassblower, still tending the flames, but more precision and a delicate hand are called for.

Throughout his time in Mercury’s sign, he’ll be working closely with his host, doubling up on aspects. There’s a strong Uranian influence at work, especially through the third week in August, and new insights and open communication are likely. Mars reminds us that action is equally important, and we’ll be inclined to follow his lead and make things happen.

On August 12th, Mars makes a square to partnership asteroid Juno, who’s stationed in Sagittarius for most of July and August, but has been moving slowly direct since August 2nd. Juno in her husband’s home sign of Sagittarius is ‘all in’ for passion in a committed relationship, and it’s Mars who might have hesitations. Mars is not usually one to say ‘no’ to sex, but here he might, if he feels that that there are strings attached. He’s concerned that those strings could turn into binding ropes, and he is not one who likes to feel confined.

If conflicts arise, and they may not, they are likely to be relatively subtle and transient. Much of the strain is likely to be felt as an internal tension, although there’s potential to project onto a partner or potential partner. Those who are considering beginning a relationship or moving to a more intimate level might have doubts about what they’re getting into. Those in a committed relationship may feel some conflicts, too, perhaps with some issues around expanding the sexual repertoire. It’s in the coming days (around the 16th through the 18th) that things can be worked out and communication opens as Saturn and Mercury aspect Juno while Mars meets with Mercury.

In the period around August 20 - 23, there’s a charged feeling that will affect relationships - along with other areas of life. Uranus is just past his station to retrograde (August 19) when Mercury and Mars trine him at the Aquarius Full Moon (August 22nd). Just after, Venus trines Saturn and sextiles Juno. Conflicts and conflicted feelings that were concerns just a week earlier give way to this active set of astrological configurations. We’re willing to work things out, make changes, or move on. This is a good time make decisions, communicate your feelings, and act upon your best available choice.

A rather Neptunian vibe settles in for the last week in August, replacing the energetic Uranian feel that prevails for most of the month. Things may be a little less clear and communication could be slow and uncertain. Mars steps in with an opposition to Pallas Athene and Neptune on September 1st and 2nd. This could be an opportunity to sweep away confusion, but might also be an opportunity to act on misinformation. Double check before making a commitment to a course of action.

Around the Virgo New Moon on September 6th, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto make a series of aspects. This could be a time of profound beginnings - or endings - in relationship. We have the opportunity to get what we want, and Mars trine to Pluto gives us the energy we need to make things happen.

Mars in Virgo may not have the easiest time showing his usual self, but this year, he’s helping us to make important changes in our relationship lives.
